THE staff at David Morgan Williams Recruitment are beginning to get itchy feet as the date when they finally move into their new premises in iC Central draws closer.

Company director David Williams said the team was "very, very excited".

"It has been something that, a number of years ago, was still a number of years away and now, it is about four weeks until we're on site," he said with a laugh.

The DMW Group, along with the IRIS research group, is a foundation tenant at the iC.

Mr Williams said the region was ready for a venue that would draw together the most forward-thinking business and research ventures in Wollongong.

"I think innovation is something that has always been happening but it has been happening, in a way, by stealth," he said.

"Establishing this innovation campus has really opened up the gate and exposed the great opportunities that are available for business to actually engage with research. It provides a venue for people to point out and say that is the innovation campus - that's where the exciting things happen, that's where ideas are generated."

Mr Williams said the DMW Group was a good fit for the iC.

"As an organisation we've always tried to be at the front of what's happening in the recruitment and human resource area so creating strong links with research and development and innovation is a big part of what we as a business are doing to strengthen our commercial activities," he said.

"Being part of the iC allows us to look at some of the innovative things we can do in recruitment and HR then link with the faculties at the university - commerce, law and infomatics in particular - and look at how we can identify real life commercial/industrial situations and innovate those situations by bringing in university students and academics to look at applying their research to these real life situations."

Mr Williams said the DMW Group had enjoyed a long association with the University of Wollongong.

"Our organisation is involved in several business programs at the university," he said.

"We have four graduates from the University of Wollongong here, and I did an MBA last year and just completed a doctorate of business administration so it made sense.

"Innovation is going to come about by people interacting and connecting and really juicing up the thinking and ideas - from that flows a lot of really good opportunities."

As part of its shift to the iC, Mr Williams said the company would implement innovative initiatives to make the business "smarter".

"We'll be trying to create a paperless office, which is pretty difficult in this business," he said.

The company was also donating all of its existing office furniture to the Salvation Army and starting afresh.

"We have a completely new set up and custom fit out, and that's going to be exciting," he said.
